Kouyate in midfield
When is this fucking experiment going to stop?

He is NOT a midfielder, we will never, ever progress as a team when this fucking statue is in the engine room. He doesn't go looking for the ball, doesn't find space so teammates can pick him out, and when he does get the ball, it's like a fucking hot potato.

Noble gets caned at times, but he is twice the midfielder of this cunt. He also left his opponent to run forward and gave up a couple of times, I am absolutely baffled as to what anyone sees in him as a centre mid. As for his long range shooting, the less said the better.

However, he is a very good centre back, better than Ogbonna, and that's where he should be playing. The fact he gets in over our best player this season by a mile in Obiang beggars belief, and I'm starting to lose faith in Bilic over it.

Obiang and Schneiderlin would be a terrific 2 but we need to spend the money elsewhere at the moment. Im sure Schneiderlin will improve any team outside the top 6.....but im sure players of his quality will be available in the future too we can afford to pass up on him not that the two daves would fork out anyway

Back to the thread topic Kouyate's best position is midfield, his ability to carry the ball and battle to regain posession in the middle is invaluable at times for us. He's passing and in particular his long range shooting needs improvement but i like him.....he has been a great signing

I hope I am wrong about the owners and unlike the Cearns I, like many, will always thank them for what they have done for the club but in the current era they are simply not wealthy enough or willing to risk enough to compete at the level they promise us and perhaps themselves.

I will give them one more summer transfer window to convince me otherwise. My thinking is perhaps they wanted to know that they could fill the stadium on a regular basis. That said, the offspring (Jack Sullivan) was still talking about the huge debt we still have. That suggests my hopes are unlikely to be realised.

Sir Alf

3 good posts there, hard to disagree with anything you wrote really.

Kouyate does have decent attributes in midfield as you pointed out but his passing really lets him down sometimes, it's the weakest part of his game. The amount of time we lose possession with him on the ball is ridiculous.

Obiong for me is a much better option in the middle, he passes so much better then Kouyate yet still has the physical side to his game to break the opposition play up & then get us on the front foot in a instance with good vision & range of passing. He reads the game better as well & naturally takes up better positions in front of the back 4, in my opinion his a very underrated (maybe not?) sitting midfielder.

Kouyate for me is a centre half & a good one at that, I thought he done well there in the short lived back 3, I could see him forming a good partnership with Reid given the chance although I doubt that will happen as Billic seems to like Ogbonna.

As for your likening the current owners to the Cearns regime & not wanting to offload the club in a hurry, I'd say that's a fair comparison & a very likely scenario. In fact I can see us lumbered up with these clowns for a few years to come. That's a very depressing thought! :-(

Re: Kouyate in midfield
Sadly as we all know and have discussed on countless other threads we will never go for someone like Schneiderlin. We do not shop at the level Everton do on a regular basis and now Sullivan has seen the panic striker buy Ayew look underwhelming for 20 million, we never will again or it will be the exception not the rule.

S & G will continue firing the "scatter gun" in the 5 - 10 million or now and again the 10 - 16 million aisle. We might get the odd success but even they will on average be a cut below in quality to the top 4, Spurs and Everton and we will continue to lag behind.

Kouyate did much more of what he is effective at yesterday which is use his athleticism and physique when in midfield. But he is not technically good enough (passing and control) to be a starter there longer term if we want to improve IMO. Schneiderlin at Southampton was excellent and if he gets regular starts, as he will at Everton, I suspect he will be seen to be a decent investment even at 22+ million. Just what we need to improve although no certainties so West Ham will not be interested.

As Noble said "West Ham are not a club that can have a 30 million player sitting on the bench". We cant even have many 10 million players on the bench and Ayew is realistically in that bracket.

We all need to lower expectations under S& G but they will insist on doing the opposite. It will / is the root of the fans problem with them.

Better to be honest but if they do that they know fans will want them out :-) They have been decent enough as an interim regime but will hang onto the club with a death grip for their children and likely become the modern day Cearns albeit with a bit more promise of investment :-(

Re: Kouyate in midfield
For fifteen minutes before the sending off we played at a quicker tempo at home for probably the first time this season.
Lanzini is key for me when Noble isn't playing.

It frees him up knowing you've got legs in midfield like Kouyate and Obiang. The sad part is Kouyate is of to Afcon which means Noble will come back in. Watch the pace of play slow down dramatically with him in the team.

We should try and get Schiderlin. If he's considering going to Pulis mob then we should be in for players like that.

Noble last season was good.'this year he has been terrible. Not the only player we can say that about but he's been one of the biggest disappointments for me.

Re: Kouyate in midfield
Thought he had a decent game again and our team played some decent stuff on the deck. He also put some good tackles in. Faded a bit second half which was understandable given we were short for so long in the game and was replaced.
As for blaming him for the Mata goal, that's just laughable.

Re: Kouyate in midfield
Is it not possible that against some teams he would be suited to defence and others midfield? For those criticising his midfield displays, frickin pogba has looked bang average most of this season

Re: Kouyate in midfield
You could just admit he had a good game in midfield and dispense with all this wriggling around on the hook. It's embarrassing.

Why would I be gutted that we've found our best midfield pairing? It's about time.

I'd probably be more gutted if I'd been running round proclaiming that Kouyate isn't a midfielder only for him to play excellently in midfield just a day later. I mean, I'd look a right mug if I'd done that wouldn't I?

To be honest, I kept forgetting he was on the pitch most of the time, except for the one LUNG BURSTING RUN THAT CAME TO NOTHING.

You've still not given me your gutted score out of 10, Vexey Wexey.

I agree with what you say about our owners not willing to invest. The offer of 650 million from Red Bull in August was a good one and it was probably a good time to sell given the way this seasons panned out.
We might not be such an attractive proposition say this time next August.
You only have to look at Joe Lewis at Spurs who was looking for a £billion for the club last season baring in mind he was looking to recoup the 500 million he had committed to their new stadium.
So i think the owners are being some what optimistic looking for more than 650 million for a club that doesn't own a stadium.

Thought he was excellent today.
Energy bought to the midfield that is clearly missing when our 'Captain' is conducting things.

Just watched MoTD and he stopped and watched as Mata jogged into the area.

Did OK today though apart from that.

He's obviously not that good technically, but he offers us energy in the middle and helps us get the team 30 yards up the pitch.

We should stick with that trio from now on.

Eerie seeing as he's played most of the season playing out of position this seems rather harsh, let's see how him and Obiang get on today

Well he did alright for us last season in midfield. And for that reason, you are a cunt.
